We’re once again offering tree chipping in January 2023, by donation. We’re once again partnering up with the Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue. Schedule a pick up with the 1st Haney Venturer Scouts and we’ll swing by to get your tree and share the proceeds with the RMSR!
We’re excited to get back to Scouting this September. We’re going to outside more than pre-pandemic times with many health and safety precautions in place. We’ll be following Scouts Canada policies, procedures and pandemic standards, as well as BC’s Public Health Order and guidelines.
We’re looking at some great activities to get rolling, including camping, hikes, canoeing, zip-lining, community & environmental service and more!
Lots of activities so far this season, including archery, lots of camping, skating, curling, canoeing; we attended Cub Skills, Cub First-Aid Day, the Maple Ridge Remembrance Parade, Christmas in the Park event, had a Halloween party, attended social camps including snow camps on Mt. Seymour and Manning Park, and much much more!
Some of our most recent events included collecting food for the Friends in Need Food Bank in Maple Ridge, sailing in English Bay, holding our annual advancement ceremonies, hosting a family camp at Camp Whonnock, sleeping over at the Vancouver Aquarium, and visiting the 4Cats Art Studio.
[Jun] We congratulate three of our Scouts for receiving their Chief Scout Award!
Matthew, Teowyn and Thenuja earned the required Outdoor Adventure Skills, completed the needed volunteer hours over their time in Troop, and completed a community service project.
[Mar-Apr] We’ve had a very busy early spring! Beavers went canoeing, tree planting and attended the Beaveree; Cubs went to Camp Blacktip, went fishing and attended the Cuboree where they got to try archery; Troop cleaned up Kanaka Creek, attended Min-Jam in Gibson’s BC, and helped out at this year’s Beaveree!
[Jan-Feb] This winter has been extremely busy for 1st Haney. All sections have been camping, with Troop back-packing at the BCIT Woodlot, Cubs also stayed in Woodlot, Beavers attended the Area Sleepover and Science World Sleepover, and Venturers & Rovers went to Rovent in Manning Park! Beavers and Cubs also went snowshoeing on Mt. Seymour, and Cubs tried out Curling at the local curling club. Beavers had some messy fun at the 4 Cats Art Studio in Maple Ridge.
We held our annual Baden Powell Founder’s Day Banquet at Camp Whonnock. Over 125 in attendance to celebrate this special day in the Scouting calendar. Bars to the Medal of Good Service were awarded to Christ and Phil Goncalves, with the Medal of Good Service awarded to David Meunier and Colin Morrow.
[Dec] In August of 2017, Scouter Byron along with others raced to the scene of an accident, rescuing a family of 5 from a burning car, adminstering CPR, and ultimately saving their lives. This special act of heroism resulted in Scouter Byron being awarded the Silver Cross, one of Scouts Canada highest honors for valor. Caitlyn Piton our National Youth Commissioner came out to help with the presentation.
[Dec] We entered a float in the Maple Ridge Christmas Parade and took 1st place!!! Our snow machine, the great costumes on our kids, and the enthusiastic signing put us over the top! Shoutout to some of our youth who helped the Maple Ridge Christmas Parade Committee by serving hot chocolate and popcorn in the park during all the festivities.
